The Inauguration Ceremony of Peradeniya Engineering Faculty Facelift and Learning Process Improvement Projects (Diamond Jubilee) took place at the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, within the esteemed Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, on the memorable date of July 31, 2024. Distinguished Alumni of the Faculty came together with a shared vision, generously committing funds towards transformative projects aimed at revitalizing the campus and enriching the educational experience. The esteemed presence of Dr. U.I Dissanayake (Dean, FoE), Mr. Kolitha Sampath, Mr. Ananda Senarath, Dr. Ariyarathne Godaliyadda, and Mr. Sarath Senevirathne added a touch of brilliance to the occasion, inspiring all with their passion for progress and dedication to their alma mater.

This was initiated by the PEFAA as a preparation to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Engineering Education in Sri Lanka in 2025.

We were overjoyed to host a fantastic gathering in the tranquil Simpson’s Forest, Wattegama, Kandy. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and create new memories together!

The event, originally scheduled for July 27, 2024, was postponed to August 3, 2024. It took place from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Simpson’s Forest, Meenawatta Estate, Elkaduwa Road, Wattegama, Kandy. Event Highlights included light Breakfast, buffet Lunch, evening Tea, and Complimentary access to the swimming pool throughout the event.
Participants confirmed their attendance, and we celebrated our shared experiences and achievements together!

As you all are aware, Peradeniya Engineering Faculty will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee (75 years) in July 2025. PEFAA, the official umbrella organization of its alumni, is planning to pay the gratitude to our Alma-mater in the eve of its Diamond Jubilee by embarking on a number of Faculty development projects.

PEFAA wish to request faculty alumni to come forward as groups or as individuals and extend their fullest support for this worthy cause.

Your active support will play a pivotal role in the implementation of those projects. We are delighted to state that one batch group has already shown their willingness to fund three of the projects. PEFAA’s effort on faculty development activities will not be realized without your enthusiasm and cooperation.

PEFAA EXCO had the first outreach meeting for the year on 13th January 2024 at Mahagedara Ethugalpura Holiday Resort, Kurunegala. About 60 alumni of the Faculty of Engineering participated at the event. It is worthwhile to note that the participants included very recent graduates as well as those who graduated about 45 years ago.

Eng. Nihal Samarasinghe (E78 batch) handed over his pencil drawing of Prof. A. Thurairajah to the Dean of the Faculty on 9th Jan. 2024 at a function organized by PEFAA. General Secretary, Treasurer and several present and past ExCo members of PEFAA participated at the event.

The Thirty Second (32) Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Peradeniya Engineering Faculty Alumni Association (PEFAA) was held at the E.O.E. Pereira Theatre, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya on 11th November, 2023 with the presence of Dean, Faculty of Engineering and about hundred alumni members.

A one-minute silence was observed commemorating past alumni members.

The outgoing president welcomed all the participants at the event including the members who joined the session via zoom. He extended his thanks to all the members who actively contributed to the PEFAA events conducted during the past year. Further, the president mentioned the five years development plan which will be uploaded to the PEFAA web page in due course. He also mentioned about the projects initiated by PEFAA Colombo chapter, specially the landscape project and invited the members’ support to realize the proposals.

The Dean, Dr. Udaya Dissanayake addressing the meeting congratulated PEFAA for organizing this event. The Dean stated that despite the pandemic, faculty moved forward with online lectures and examinations and was able to graduate two batches during the year. He appreciated the support given by PEFAA in achieving these targets. He concluded his speech while extending his fullest support to PEFAA.
Names of recipients of the following annual awards were announced.

• Engineering Mathematics Prize
• Engineering Mathematics Project Prize
• Prof. Mahalingam Endowment Fund Project Grant
• Dr. NadarajahNandakumar (E/80) Memorial Award for Best Performance in Engineering Hydrology
  The event was decorated by the mesmerizing performance of the undergraduates of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
  

Subsequently, Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.D. Lamawansa addressed the gathering. He stressed the important role that the alumni members of the university have in shaping the future of the university. The Vice Chancellor also mentioned that the generous contributions of the PEFAA are always appreciated. He concluded his remarks by stating that the university is expecting similar contribution in the future events as well.

E/78 batch organized to donate essential items for University Health center and fund to put up a temporary inspection hut. The event which was held on Sunday 2nd of May 2021 had the presence of the Deputy Vice Chancellor of University of Peradeniya. Prof. Weerakoon, Eng. Jayathilake, Eng. Deepthi and Eng. Madurasinghe attended to represent the batch. Mr Gamunu Ranasinghe attended the event on behalf of PEFAA.
